Frequently Asked Questions - Breast Lift Surgery (Mastopexy) FAQs

What is a breast lift?

A breast lift is a cosmetic surgery procedure that is performed on a patient who wishes to improve the overall shape and position of their breasts.

How does a plastic surgeon perform a breast lift?

Breast lifts should be performed by a board certified plastic surgeon. The patient will undergo anesthesia before the surgeon begins the operation. While the patient sleeps, the cosmetic surgeon will make one or more incisions to each breast. The excess skin is tightened and removed and often times the nipple is reshaped and or resized. The surgeon will then close the open incisions with sutures before the patient wakes and starts the recovery process.

What is the difference between a breast lift and a breast enlargement?

A breast enlargement increases the size of the breasts; a lift is intended only to improve the shape and position of the breasts. It is not uncommon for both procedures to be performed in conjunction with one another.

What is the cost of a breast lift?

The cost of a breast lift usually averages around $5,000 however; the price can be affected by a number of factors including the individual patient needs, the location of the surgery and the specific surgeon performing the operation. You may see fluctuations in price anywhere from $4,000 to $10,000.

How long does a breast lift take?

A breast lift can take anywhere from 2-4 hours.

How do I get a breast lift?

The first step in getting a breast lift is to make sure it is the right surgery for you. If you feel you are a candidate and you determine that you can afford both the cost of the procedure and the time off work than a breast lift may be right for you.
