Frequently Asked Questions – BOTOX® and Dysport Injections FAQs

What is a cosmetic toxin?

A cosmetic toxin injection is a cosmetic procedure designed to remove wrinkles in the face by paralyzing the muscles that cause them. This is achieved by injecting a small amount of toxin into specific areas of the patients face. Surgical alternatives to cosmetic toxins include a face lift or a brow lift.

How long does BOTOX Injections and Dypsort Injections Last?

Both cosmetic toxin procedures typically last anywhere from 3-6 months before the effects begin to wear off.

How does a plastic surgeon perform BOTOX® or Dysport Injections?

The plastic surgeon will first thoroughly clean the face of the patient. Next they will choose the areas to inject the toxins. A small needle is then used to inject the toxin into designated areas of the face in order to produce the most desirable results.

Do cosmetic toxin injections hurt?

Not really. The pain associated with these injections is very mild.

What is the difference between BOTOX® and Dysport?

There is not much difference between the two. Both are a form of botulinum toxin and they both serve the same purpose. The cost and result of the two is relatively the same. The only real tangible difference is that Dysport has fewer proteins surrounding the toxin which makes it an alternative to BOTOX® with patients who no longer respond to the toxin.

How long do toxin injections take?

Both the BOTOX® injections and the Dysport injections take roughly 10-20 minutes.

What is the cost of toxin injections?

Although cost can vary depending upon the surgeon, the patient’s needs and the location, you will typically see cosmetic toxin procedures fall within the $300-$500 range.
