What is rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is the medical term for nose surgery or a nose job. The plastic surgery procedure is intended to improve the overall look of a patient’s face by changing the shape and or size of their nose.

How is nose surgery performed?

Nose surgery is performed by making an incision to the inside of the nostrils and or the columella (the soft tissue on the outside of the nose in between each nostril). The plastic surgeon will then pull back the skin of the nose revealing the nasal structure underneath. The shape of the nose is changed by either reducing or augmenting the structure underneath. The skin is then draped back over the nose and the incisions are stitched together.

Is nose surgery painful?

Surprisingly it is not! A mild discomfort will usually persist for a full day after the operation but that is all.

Does nose surgery leave scars?

If the plastic surgeon performs a closed rhinoplasty then no, however, an open rhinoplasty will leave a few small scars which are not very noticeable and will fade over time.

How much does nose surgery cost?

Although the cost can generally range anywhere from $2,000 - $8,000, the average cost of a nose job is around $4,000.
